Susan and I are deeply committed to making sure Honda Center actively supports our community in this time of need. In normal times, Honda Center is a place for the community to gather and enjoy the best of sports and live entertainment. More than 1.5 million people come through our doors each year to be together and share in the fun of a great concert, family show or hockey game.
For these past months, Honda Center has played a different role for our community. It has served as an ideal location to distribute food and essential supplies to families out of work during this crisis. It has even hosted the County Clerk-Recorder to perform more than 5,000 marriages as well as served as a Super Vote Center, in partnership with the OC Registrar of Voters, in the 2020 General Election! During this crisis, Honda Center will continue to look for ways we can serve the community. This is your Honda Center and we will use our stewardship of this community asset to help wherever possible.
We want to share some exciting news with you. For more than two years, we have been working on a master plan for the future of Honda Center and the 95 acres surrounding it. While the start of buildout of this master plan is a ways out, we have now submitted a project application for entitlement to the City of Anaheim, anticipating the day when we can all gather together again safely and enjoy great food, open space, and entertainment.
This website is our introduction to the master plan we have been working on. We invite you to take a look at our master planned community of parks, housing workplaces, food and entertainment. The project is targeted to open in 2024. Like all of you, we are optimistic this COVID-19 crisis is well behind us by then, and you will welcome some encouraging and exciting news as we plan for the future when we can all gather together again.
One of the great lessons we have all learned from this crisis is that we are not meant to be alone. We love being in the company of each other as friends, family, and community. We need places to gather, have shared experiences, enjoy art, entertainment and good food. We aspire to build one of those wonderful places for you. We hope you like our ideas and our team looks forward to hearing feedback from you. Stay safe.
